Christian Education Emphasis at Lusaka Baptist Church
Dr. Kenneth Turnbull, Executive Director, ACU
It was a joy to be a part of the program at Lusaka Baptist Church (Lusaka, Zambia) on Sunday, July 3, 2011. It was a day dedicated to exalt Jesus Christ for the opportunities we have been granted in Him to pursue knowledge of the Creator, His creation and the relationship we have with Him. The morning began with the privilege I had to explore the Biblical worldview: what it is, how it is formulated, how it is applied, and how it formulates our education endeavors. As these issues were briefly expanded from God's Word, I was encouraged by the supportive response amongst the body of believers. The session ended with a brief overview of the integration of the Biblical worldview with the purpose and approach to education at ACU. |

To be on the receiving end of substantive discourse is always a privilege and such was the case for all who recently observed the impassioned exposition of Pastor Ronald Kalifungwa, of Lusaka Baptist Church (Lusaka, Zambia), as he shared the ACU vision. |

God initiated Pr. Mbewe's trip with prayer as visa problems appeared that they might derail the entire trip. Graciously, God responded to the prayer request that was sent out to everyone on the ACU mailing list, and Conrad's visa was granted and his 30+ hour trip was successful. |

Summary of Pr. Mbewe's USA Tour to Promote ACU
What a privilege it was to have Pastor Conrad Mbewe minister to us in the USA for 10 days while he traveled around with Dr. Ken and Lisa Turnbull to promote the vision and opportunity for African Christian University. If you would like to read his summary of the tour, please go to Conrad Mbewe's blog.
From the perspective of ACU-USA, the trip was a complete success as the enthusiasm for the project amongst the American churches and organizations visited was clearly apparent. |

Submitting to Jesus Christ by faith back in 1979, Pastor Mbewe sat under the preaching of then-Pastor Joseph Simfukwe in Lusaka while he was an undergraduate studying mining engineering in Zambia's capital.
Through a series of sermons on Galatians that Pastor Simfukwe preached, along with several other university students, Mr. Mbewe came to embrace the sovereignty and providence of God. Hearing Pastor Simfukwe quote men like Hodge and Spurgeon, the young men decided to read what their pastor was reading. As Pastor Mbewe once said, as they saw a number of these good books which had a picture on their spine of Whitefield preaching with his arm lifted in the air, so they concluded the best way to get good books was to ask for those with this picture. |

Renewing the African Mind - One Life in Christ at a Time
Imagine a University that produces worshipers of God - an institute of higher learning that does not blindly celebrate all faiths or lifestyles embodying the prevalent culture of moral confusion that this world celebrates. Instead, this is an environment where education celebrates the preeminence of Jesus Christ in everything. Here the intellect, effort and will are transformed as knowledge of God is passionately pursued. The whole-life focus facilitates the development of morally astute, servant-leaders. Committed professors and staff mentor through a Biblical perspective matured through practiced application. Continual commitment to benevolent works through God's power throughout the community nurtures a habitual concern for others. This is an educational environment that can integrate with the Church that Jesus Christ is building to impact an entire continent as Christ is exalted in the lives of God's people. |

We continue to pray for those qualified individuals God has ordained to teach at the university (See the "ACU Education Philosophy" for further details). We seek individuals who desire to be involved in evangelism, discipleship, and to teach at various levels:
(1) those who can assist in teaching the whole narrative of God: who God is, Lucifer's fall, creation in Jesus Christ, man's disobedience and fall from Christ, God's Covenant relation with His chosen people, His promised redemption through Christ, and with the ultimate consummation of all things under Christ. This outline encompasses our evangelism foundations. Also,
(2) those with a minimum of a Master's degree in their discipline, and
(3) those with a Ph.D. in their discipline.

We pray for God to call out His laborers who will serve as staff at ACU. We trust God to call both African and international Reformed believers who can serve in this task. Many of the same qualifications for faculty will also be relevant to staff (See "ACU Faculty") as they will also serve in discipleship and evangelism relationships with students. |

ACU is a PRAYER, and is quickly moving into development.
In the faith of our almighty God we accept His Word, Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life, knowing that we can stand firm on His authoritative Word when He said,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it." (John 14:12-14)
We seek to establish a Christian university in Zambia that will equip the believers, the body of Christ, to go out into all levels of the society as the aroma of Christ, commissioned by God, to be the salt and light of this world, bringing the gospel of Christ everywhere they live. We seek the glory of God's kingdom and His righteousness, and entrust all provision to His mighty hand (Matthew 6:33).
